Is Realms down for everyone or just me?
If an edition above shows Down, Realms is failing for everyone on that edition and there is nothing to fix on your end: wait for Mojang to bring it back. If both editions are up but you still cannot get in, the cause is almost always your game version, your account, the Realm itself or your connection. The fixes below cover each one.
Java and Bedrock Realms are separate services (pc.realms.minecraft.net and pocket.realms.minecraft.net), so one can be down while the other works. Bedrock Realms is one shared service for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Windows, iOS and Android, so when it is down on one platform it is down on all of them.
If more than Realms seems broken, check whether Minecraft is down for Java, Bedrock and sign-in at once.
Realms not working? Fixes when the status is up
Update Minecraft
Realms does not support older versions of the game. On Java, switch the launcher to Latest release; snapshots and modded profiles cannot join a normal Realm. On Bedrock, update from your platform's store.
Sign out and back in
Sign out of your Microsoft account in Minecraft, fully close the game, then restart your device and sign in again. On Windows, also sign out of the Xbox app and Microsoft Store.
Check the Realm is active
The owner needs an active Realms subscription and the Realm must be open. If you are joining someone else's Realm, ask them to check both.
Check your console membership
On consoles, online play needs an active Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online membership. An outage of that console network also stops Realms on that console, even when Realms itself is up.
Check family settings
Child accounts need permission to join multiplayer games. A parent can allow it in the Xbox privacy and online safety settings for the account.
Restart your network
Restart your router, turn off any VPN or proxy, and try another connection such as a phone hotspot to rule out your network.
Realms not loading or stuck on the loading screen
If the Realms list never appears or keeps spinning, the game cannot reach the Realms service: compare it with the live status above. If the list loads but joining a world hangs, the problem is usually the world itself:
- Give it a minute. Large or busy worlds take longer to start after they have been idle. Wait before trying again.
- Close and reopen the Realm. The owner can close the Realm in its settings and open it again, which restarts the world and clears most stuck connections.
- Undo recent changes. A newly added add-on, pack or very large farm can stop a world loading. The owner can remove it or restore an earlier backup from the Realm's settings.
- Try another device. If the Realm loads on a phone or console but not on your PC, the problem is that device's game install or connection.
Realms error codes and what they mean
Realms error 504 (Gateway Timeout)
The Realms service took too long to answer. If the status above shows Realms slow or down, wait for it to recover. If it is up, try again in a minute. When a 504 appears while uploading a world, the world is usually too big to upload in time; trim unused map files and far-off chunks, then try again.
Realms error 500 (Internal Server Error)
Something failed on Mojang's side while handling your request. It is almost always temporary: wait a few minutes and retry. If it keeps happening for one Realm only, the owner can close and reopen it.
Realms error 502 or 503
Realms, or a service in front of it, is overloaded or restarting. This is common at the start of an outage and just after a big update. Check the status above and try again once it is green.
Realms error 403 (Forbidden)
Realms understood the request but will not let this account in. You may not be invited, the invite may have been removed, the owner's subscription may have run out, or the account may not be allowed to play multiplayer.
Your client is not compatible with Realms
Java Edition only: your game version does not match the Realm. Select Latest release in the launcher and try again.

Bedrock cannot reach the Realms service. If Bedrock Realms is down above, wait. If it is up, sign out and back in, restart your device, and check your console membership.
Unable to connect to world
The Realm was found but its world did not answer. The Realm may be closed or expired, or the world may be stuck. Ask the owner to close and reopen the Realm, then try again.
Couldn't create a Realm right now
Creating new Realms is temporarily unavailable, or the purchase has not reached your account yet. Check the status above, wait a few minutes, and try again signed in with the account that bought the subscription.
What to do while Realms is down
You do not lose anything in an outage. Worlds, members and subscriptions are stored by Mojang, and your Realm will be where you left it when the service comes back.
- Play a downloaded copy. Realm owners can download the world from the Realm's settings and play it in singleplayer. Download a copy now and then while Realms is up, so you have one ready.
- Play on LAN. Friends in the same house can join a world opened to LAN, which does not use Realms.
- Join a public server. Realms outages do not affect independent servers, so SMP servers and survival servers keep running. Bedrock players can follow our guide to joining a server on Bedrock.
How this Realms status check works
Every 60 seconds our servers send an unsigned request to the Java and Bedrock Realms services. A healthy service rejects it straight away, which proves it is online and answering. A server error or no answer within 8 seconds counts as a failure, three failures in a row count as Down, and an answer slower than 2.5 seconds counts as Having problems.
We also check each sign-in step a player needs before they can reach Realms, from the Microsoft account login to the Java session server, and read Microsoft's official Xbox status. We never sign in to an account, so a problem with one Realm or one account will not show here.

Is Minecraft Realms down right now?
The live status at the top of this page answers that. It checks Java Realms, Bedrock Realms and the sign-in services they need every minute, and shows each edition separately.
Is Realms down on Xbox, PS5 or Switch?
Every console uses the same Bedrock Realms service, so the Bedrock Realms status covers Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Windows, iOS and Android. If Bedrock Realms is up but one console cannot connect, check that console's online membership and network status.
Why is Realms not working when the status says it is up?
Usually an out-of-date game, an expired sign-in, an inactive Realm subscription, a lapsed console membership or family settings blocking multiplayer. Update the game, sign out and back in, and ask the owner to check the Realm is open.
Why is my Realm not loading?
If the Realms list does not load, the game cannot reach Realms: check the status above. If the list loads but the world does not, the world is usually stuck; the owner can close and reopen the Realm or restore a backup.
What does Realms error 504 mean?
A 504 is a gateway timeout: the Realms service took too long to answer. It clears on its own once Realms recovers. If it happens while uploading a world, the world is usually too big to upload in time.
How long do Realms outages last?
Most Realms outages last from a few minutes to a couple of hours. The recent Minecraft Realms outages list on this page shows how long each one we have recorded lasted.
Will I lose my Realm world if Realms goes down?
No. An outage stops you connecting but does not delete worlds, members or subscriptions. Realms also keeps backups that the owner can restore.
Where does Mojang announce Realms outages?
Mojang posts service announcements on @MojangStatus on X and on Minecraft Help (help.minecraft.net). This page shows problems as soon as our checks detect them, which is often before an announcement.
