The short version
- You can browse the server list without an account. We collect only basic, pseudonymous usage analytics while you do.
- If you create an account, we store your email address, display name and sign-in details so the account works.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- When you vote, we keep the Minecraft username you enter and a one-way hash of your network, never your raw IP address. The server you vote for receives only your username and the time of the vote.
- We do not sell your personal information, show ads, or record your sessions.
- You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data at any time: [email protected].
This summary is for convenience. The full text below is what applies.
This policy explains what information NewMinecraftServers ("we", "us") collects when you use https://newminecraftservers.net, our accounts, our public API and any browser extension or app we publish (together, the "Service"), and what we do with it.
1. Information we collect
When you browse
You do not need an account to use the server list. While you browse, our analytics providers receive the pages you view (including search terms and filters in the address), the actions you take on the site (such as copying a server address, rolling a random server or changing the sort order), and standard technical information sent by your browser, such as device type, browser, referring page and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use this only in aggregate and do not use it to identify you.
When you create an account
- Email address, used to sign you in, verify your account and send account emails.
- Display name, which defaults to the first part of your email address and can be changed. You can also add an avatar image link.
- Password, stored only as a salted, one-way hash. We cannot read it.
- Sign-in tokens that keep you signed in on your device.
When you sign in with Google
If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your basic profile with us: your Google account ID, email address and whether it is verified, your name and profile picture, and your language setting, plus the tokens Google issues for the sign-in. We use this only to create and sign in to your account and to link it to an existing account with the same verified email. You can disconnect Google from your account once you have set a password.
When you pay for something
Checkout and billing management run on pages hosted by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details directly. We receive and keep only what we need to run your purchase: your Stripe customer ID, the product or plan you bought, its status, and when the current billing period ends. We do not receive or store full card numbers.
When you vote for a server
Voting does not need an account. When you vote we record:
- The Minecraft username you enter, the server you voted for and the time. Usernames of the most active voters are shown publicly in each server's monthly leaderboard.
- A one-way hash of your network (your IPv4 address, or the first half of an IPv6 address), made with a secret key. We use it to enforce one vote per server per day and to spot fraud. We never store the IP address itself, and the hash cannot be turned back into it.
- Technical details your browser sends: browser and device type, preferred language, and the country Cloudflare reports for your connection.
- A voting cookie: a random identifier we set the first time you vote, so we can apply the same daily limits to your browser if your network changes. We store it only as a one-way hash, and it is sent only when you vote.
- A check of your username with Mojang on servers that are not cracked, to confirm it belongs to a real Minecraft account. Mojang receives only the username.
- Your account, if you are signed in when you vote, and whether its email is verified.
Votes are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person is voting. Turnstile runs in your browser and receives technical signals about your browser and connection under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We use its answer (pass or fail) only to accept or refuse the vote.
When you contact us
If you email us, we keep the message and your email address so we can reply and keep a record of the request.
When you use our public API or tools
Some tools, such as the Minecraft username lookup, send the name you enter to Mojang's public API to fetch the matching profile. Results are kept briefly in server memory to avoid repeat requests and are not saved to our database. Our Minecraft service status page checks Mojang and Microsoft services without using any visitor information.
2. Information about Minecraft servers
The server list is built from information that servers publish or that is publicly available: server names, addresses, descriptions, tags, links, icons and banners gathered from public server lists and directories, and the status each server reports when pinged, such as whether it is online, player counts, version and message of the day. We ping each listed server regularly to keep this current. Minecraft servers can also broadcast a sample of connected player names; we do not store those.
Server addresses are public by design so players can join. If you run a server from a personal connection and want it removed, or any listing is wrong, email [email protected] and we will correct or remove it.
Vote delivery to servers
If a server's owner connects it to our voting (through Votifier), we send that server your Minecraft username, our site name and the time of your vote so it can give you in-game rewards. We do not send your IP address or any other information. What the server does with your username is up to its operator and its own policies.
Server owners give us a Votifier token or public key to deliver votes. We store it encrypted, use it only to deliver votes to that server, and delete it when the owner removes it or the listing changes owner.
3. How we use information
- To provide the Service: show server listings and status, run your account, and deliver features you use.
- To send account emails, such as verification, password resets and receipts. We do not send marketing emails.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages and features are used so we can improve them.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract to provide your account and anything you buy; legitimate interests to run, secure and improve the Service and to keep the server list accurate, balanced against your rights; consent where required by law, which you can withdraw at any time; and legal obligation where we must keep records, such as for tax.
5. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, under agreements that limit their use of it to providing their service to us:
- Hosting and database providers, which store the Service's data.
- Stripe, for payments and billing (Stripe Privacy Policy).
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google (Google Privacy Policy).
- Email delivery providers, which send account emails on our behalf.
- Analytics providers (currently PostHog and DataFast), which receive the usage information described above.
- Mojang and Microsoft, when you use a tool that looks up public Minecraft data, and when you vote for a server that is not cracked (only the username you enter, to confirm the account exists).
- Cloudflare, which delivers the site, protects it from attacks, and runs the Turnstile check when you vote (Cloudflare Privacy Policy).
- The Minecraft server you vote for, which receives your Minecraft username and the time of your vote if its owner has connected it to our voting.
We may also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the information transferred.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in, to remember preferences such as the color theme, and, when you vote, to remember the username you used and when you can vote for that server again. When you vote we also set one first-party cookie, nms_voter, containing a random identifier. It lasts a year, is sent only to our voting service, and is used only to prevent repeat and fraudulent votes. One of our analytics providers (PostHog) sets a first-party cookie and local storage entry to count unique visitors; the other (DataFast) runs without cookies. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. The site still works without them, but you will not stay signed in.
7. How long we keep information
- Account information is kept while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize it within 30 days, except where we must keep records by law.
- Billing records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting.
- Detailed server status samples are deleted automatically after 30 days. Daily summaries of server status are kept to show long-term history.
- Analytics data is kept according to our analytics providers' retention settings and used only in aggregate.
- Vote records, including the network hash and technical details, are kept for as long as we need them to keep rankings accurate and to investigate fraud. Votes we reject as fraudulent are kept, marked as void, for the same reason.
- Voting limits expire automatically within 24 hours. Logs of votes sent to Minecraft servers are deleted after 30 days.
- Vote attempts we refuse (for example a username with no Minecraft account, or a repeat vote) are kept with the same details for 30 days to detect abuse, then deleted automatically.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days and will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. You can update your display name yourself on your account page.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. California residents have the rights described above under the CCPA; we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined there.
9. Security
We protect information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls and rate limits. No online service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify affected users and authorities of a breach where the law requires.
10. International transfers
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.
11. Children
Anyone can browse the server list, but accounts are for people aged 13 or older, or older where local law requires a higher age to consent to data processing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
12. Browser extensions and Google user data
Any browser extension or app we publish lists the data it accesses in its store listing and uses that data only to provide the features described there. Our use of information received from Google APIs, and from browser extension users, follows the Google API Services User Data Policy and the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including their Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we:
In Minecraft Server Status & Finder, an optional Minecraft username, its resolved public profile and skin, saved server favorites, and short-lived server and service-status results are stored in your Chrome profile. The username is sent to our public API only to resolve the profile through Mojang and may appear in ordinary operational request logs; it is not added to our application database. The extension does not collect analytics.
- use that data only to provide or improve the single purpose and user-facing features of the product that collected it;
- do not sell it, or transfer it for advertising, credit-worthiness or lending purposes, or to data brokers;
- do not allow people to read it, except with your consent, for security or abuse investigations, to comply with law, or in aggregated and anonymized form for internal operations.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially affects how we use personal information you have already given us, we will tell account holders by email or on the site before it takes effect.
