Is Minecraft Down?

Find out in seconds whether Minecraft is down for everyone or just for you. We check Mojang and Microsoft's services every minute and turn the results into one answer for Java Edition, Bedrock Edition and Realms, with a link to the detail behind each.

Is Minecraft Java down?

Java Edition needs two things from Mojang and Microsoft to play online. First, the launcher signs you in with your Microsoft account, through Xbox Live and Minecraft Services. Then, each time you join a server, that server asks Mojang's session server to confirm your account. If either part fails, you cannot join online servers, even though the servers themselves are still running.

Is Minecraft Bedrock down?

Bedrock Edition signs in with your Microsoft account through Xbox services on every device, including PlayStation, Switch and phones. It does not use the Java session server, so a session server outage only hits Java. Joining friends and Realms also goes through Xbox multiplayer services, which is why we show Microsoft's own multiplayer status next to our checks.

Realms runs on its own service for each edition. If your Realm is the only thing that will not load, check whether Realms is down for Java and Bedrock separately.

Is Minecraft down on Xbox, PS5 or Switch?

Consoles run Bedrock Edition, so start with the Bedrock answer above. A console also needs its own online network, and that network can go down while Minecraft is fine. If Bedrock is up but you cannot play online on one console, check that console's network status:

• Xbox: Microsoft's sign-in and multiplayer status is shown above. For everything else, see Xbox status.
• PlayStation 4 and 5: see PlayStation Network status. PlayStation players also sign in with a Microsoft account, so a Microsoft outage stops them too.
• Nintendo Switch: see Nintendo's network status.

Playing online on a console usually needs an active online membership for that console. If it has run out, multiplayer stops working even when every service is up.

Minecraft Launcher, Marketplace and store problems

Not every problem means the game's servers are down. The Minecraft Launcher signs you in and downloads updates. If it cannot sign in, look at the sign-in row above. If it signs in but will not download or update the game, the cause is usually your connection, free disk space or antivirus. On Windows, installs and updates can also depend on the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.

Bedrock Marketplace purchases, Minecoins and skin packs use separate Microsoft services that this page does not check. If the Marketplace will not load but you can still play, wait a while and watch Mojang's announcements.

Is Minecraft down for everyone or just me?

Compare the status at the top of this page with what you are seeing:

• A row above is red: that service is down for everyone. Nothing on your side will fix it, so wait for Mojang or Microsoft.
• Everything is green, but you cannot connect anywhere: the problem is on your side. Restart the game and launcher, sign out and back in, and try another network. The sign-in troubleshooting steps go through each fix.
• Only one server will not load: that server is offline, full or restarting. Each server is run by its own owner, so it can go down while Minecraft is fine. Check it with the server status checker, or pick another from the server list.
• Only Realms fails: see whether Realms is down.
• Only one console fails: check that console's network and membership, as described above.

Mojang's services are shared worldwide, so a real outage usually hits every country at once. When only players in one country or on one internet provider are affected, the cause is usually the route between that network and Microsoft, which our checks may not see.

What to do when Minecraft is down

• Wait it out. Most outages are fixed within minutes to a few hours. Reinstalling the game or resetting your password will not help.
• Stay signed in. Signing out during an outage can leave you unable to sign back in until it is over.
• Play singleplayer. Worlds saved on your device do not need Mojang's servers.
• Follow official updates. Mojang posts on @MojangStatus and Minecraft Help. Players also compare notes on Reddit's r/Minecraft.
• Find another server. If only Realms or one server is down, sign-in still works and public servers keep running. Browse SMP servers, survival servers or every new server.

How we check if Minecraft is down

Every 60 seconds our servers contact each service Minecraft relies on: the five steps of the Java sign-in, Mojang's profile and skin servers, and the Java and Bedrock Realms services. Every few minutes we also read Microsoft's official Xbox status. A service that fails three checks in a row is marked Down, and an answer slower than 2.5 seconds counts as Having problems.

We never sign in to an account, so a problem with one account, one Realm or one multiplayer server will not show here.
