Whether your group can play together depends on edition, not device. Bedrock Edition players can play together across consoles, phones, and Windows; Java Edition players play with other Java players.
Check each player's edition
- Java Edition: Windows, macOS, and Linux, launched from the Minecraft Launcher.
- Bedrock Edition: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, phones, tablets, and the Windows Bedrock release.
Owning Minecraft on several devices does not mean those copies can join the same world. Confirm the edition before choosing how to play.
Play together on Bedrock
Sign in
Every player signs in with a Microsoft account on their device.
Add friends
Add each other as friends from the game's Friends tab.
Host or invite
Open a world with multiplayer enabled, or invite everyone to a Realm.
Join
Accept the invitation, or join the world from the Friends tab.
Join a cross-play server
Some networks connect Java and Bedrock players in the same community. They list a separate address for each edition; use the one labelled for yours. Browse cross-play servers to find them.
If someone cannot connect
- Confirm multiplayer is allowed on the account and platform.
- Check the edition, address, port, and game version.
- Console players may need a platform online subscription for multiplayer.
- Child accounts may need permission changes in family settings.
