    How to find a biome

    1. Enter your seed and edition

Type /seed in Java or check the world settings in Bedrock, then pick the version you play.

    2. Choose a biome

Search the list or pick from it. The map dims every other biome so the one you want stands out.

    3. Pick a starting point

Results are sorted by distance from spawn. Enter your own X and Z, or drag the map and use its middle, to search from where you are.

    4. Go there

Click a result to jump to it on the map, then click the pin to copy a /tp command or the coordinates.

A biome map for any seed

The finder doubles as a biome viewer. With a biome picked, the map shows every patch of it around you, so you can see at a glance where the big ones are, not just the closest. Drag the map and press Use the middle of the map to turn it into a biome locator for wherever you are. For the full picture with every biome in colour, open the same seed on the seed map.

    Finding cave biomes

Lush Caves, Dripstone Caves and the Deep Dark only exist underground, so the finder looks for them at cave depth (around Y=−40) instead of at the surface. The Deep Dark forms under mountains, below Y=0, and every ancient city sits inside one: the seed map marks ancient cities directly.

    Rare biomes worth hunting

    • Mushroom Fields: islands far out at sea, with no hostile mobs. Great for a safe base.
    • Cherry Grove: pink trees on mountain slopes, added in 1.20.
    • Pale Garden: a dark, eerie forest where creakings hide, added in 1.21.4.
    • Ice Spikes and Eroded Badlands: uncommon variants of snowy plains and badlands.
    • Bamboo Jungle: where pandas spawn.

If a biome does not exist within 20,000 blocks, the finder says so. Try another seed, use the seed map to look around more freely, or pick one of the best Minecraft seeds, such as a mushroom island or pale garden near spawn.

    Nether and End biomes

Switch the dimension to find Nether biomes such as the Warped Forest, Crimson Forest, Soul Sand Valley or Basalt Deltas. Nether coordinates are one eighth of the Overworld's, so use the Nether portal calculator to place a portal that leads there. For fortresses and bastions, use the Nether fortress finder.

    Biome finder questions

How do I find a specific biome in Minecraft?

Enter your seed, pick the biome and the finder lists the nearest places it generates, closest first, with X and Z coordinates. In-game, players with cheats can also run /locate biome minecraft:cherry_grove (any biome name works).

How do I find a biome near me rather than near spawn?

Type your current X and Z in the Search from boxes, or drag the map to where you are, and search again. Press F3 in Java to see your coordinates; in Bedrock, turn on Show Coordinates in the world settings.

How do I find the Deep Dark?

The Deep Dark is underground, usually below mountains and under Y=0. Pick it in the finder and it searches at cave depth instead of the surface. Ancient cities are always inside the Deep Dark, so the seed map's ancient city markers are another way in.

    What are the rarest biomes?

Mushroom Fields, which only form far out in the ocean, are famously hard to find. Eroded Badlands, Ice Spikes, Bamboo Jungle and the Pale Garden are also scarce. The finder searches up to 20,000 blocks out, so it will find even rare biomes if they exist that close.

Does the biome finder work on Bedrock?

Yes. Switch the edition to Bedrock. Since 1.18 the two editions share nearly the same biome layout for the same seed, but always pick your edition so the results match exactly.

Why does the biome not appear at the exact coordinates?

Results point at the middle of a 16-block area where the biome generates, so you might be a few blocks from its edge. Biome borders also blend slightly in-game. Head to the coordinates and look around.
