How to make Minecraft-style text

  1. Type your words

Short titles look best: a server name, a channel name or one word for a thumbnail. Capitals read most like a game title.

  2. Pick a style

Stone, grass, gold, diamond, redstone and amethyst give chunky 3D block letters. Game font is flat, with the same drop shadow as text in chat.

  3. Set the size and depth

Pixel size sets how many image pixels each font pixel takes, so a bigger size gives a larger PNG. 3D depth sets how far the letters stick out.

  4. Download the PNG

With a transparent background, the image drops straight onto a YouTube thumbnail, Discord banner or server website.

The Minecraft font

Minecraft draws its text in a pixel font where every letter sits on a small grid, and the title logo is hand-made artwork built from stone-textured blocks. Neither can be downloaded and reused freely, so this generator uses Monocraft, an open-source font (SIL Open Font License) drawn on the same kind of pixel grid. Each font pixel becomes a block, so the letters keep their hard, square edges at any size.

Title text or game font?

  • 3D block styles suit logos, banners and video thumbnails, where the text has to stand out at a glance.
  • Game font looks like chat, sign or menu text. Pick one of the 16 chat colours to match what players see in game.

Colored text inside Minecraft

This tool makes pictures. To colour real text in chat, on signs and in books, use Minecraft color codes; for colour fades in chat and nicknames on Java servers, use the gradient generator; and for the message under your server's name in the multiplayer list, use the MOTD generator.

Minecraft text generator questions

What font does Minecraft use?

The game draws its text in Mojang's own pixel font, and the title logo is custom artwork rather than a font you can type with. This generator uses Monocraft, a free, openly licensed font made in the same pixel style, so you can use the images anywhere.

Can I use the images on YouTube, Discord or my server website?

Yes. The images are made in your browser from your own text, and Monocraft's licence (the SIL Open Font License) allows it in images. Just avoid presenting your artwork as official Minecraft branding.

How do I get a transparent background?

Leave Background set to Transparent before you download. The PNG then has no background, ready to place over a thumbnail or banner.

Can I make the Minecraft logo with this?

You can make lettering in the same chunky, stone-block style, with your own words. It is not a copy of the official logo, which is Mojang's artwork, so it is safe to use for your own server or channel.
