/time set takes a tick number or a name. Tick 0 is 6:00 in the morning, just as sunrise ends, and tick 18,000 is midnight. Bedrock has two extra names, sunrise and sunset.
| Command | Tick | Clock | Editions |
|---|---|---|---|
/time set day | 1,000 | 07:00 | Java and Bedrock |
/time set noon | 6,000 | 12:00 | Java and Bedrock |
/time set sunset | 12,000 | 18:00 | Bedrock only |

What time do mobs spawn in Minecraft?
Hostile mobs spawn on the surface when the sky is dark enough, not at a set hour. In clear weather that is from about tick 13,188 (19:11) until 22,812 (04:48) on Java, one tick later on Bedrock. Rain starts it a little earlier (12,969) and ends it later (23,031). During a thunderstorm the sky is dark enough for monsters to spawn at any time of day. Caves and other dark places spawn mobs day and night.
When can you sleep in Minecraft?
Beds work once the sky starts to darken: from about 18:32 (tick 12,540) until about 05:27 (tick 23,460) in clear weather, from about 12,010 in rain, and at any time during a thunderstorm. Sources differ by a few ticks either way, so treat the edges as approximate. Sleeping skips to the next morning and clears the weather. On a server, a game rule sets how many players need to sleep:players_sleeping_percentage on Java and playerssleepingpercentage on Bedrock.
Can you change how long a Minecraft day is?
- Stop time:
/gamerule advance_time falseon Java (doDaylightCyclein versions before the rename), or/gamerule dodaylightcycle falseon Bedrock. - Speed it up or slow it down: the Minecraft Wiki lists a
/time ratecommand, added in Java 26.1, that changes how fast the day clock runs. Older Java versions and Bedrock have no built-in option; servers use plugins or add-ons. - Skip the night: sleep, or use
/time set day.
